THE BOOK I READ-WINNERS

When all appears to be lost, the real fight has just begun”
I just finished reading a book known as “WINNERS” by Danielle Steel. This book was first published in the United States in 2013. It was a book about hopes. After reading the book I learnt that we should never lose hopes. We should keep on trying, and there will be one day when we will succeed!
This book is about a girl, Lily Thomas. She is seventeen years old and she is a ski champion who is currently training for the Olympics. One day she went for her training as usual, but, what happened with her that day was not usual! The chairlift broke! This caused her to have a spinal injury. She could never stand again. She had to stay in a wheel chair forever. Lily’s doctor, Jessie Matthews, who operated her, said that she could still do many things if she tries. But, Jessie’s spirits were actually tested when she had a tragedy of her own. The day she operated Lily, she got to know that her husband died in a road accident. Lily’s father, Bill Thomas, refused to accept that Lily has been injured and she cannot be cured. He decided to take her to the most famous doctors. But Jessie was correct; her injury could not be cured. All the doctors said that it was impossible. Bill met an old friend of his during this trip, whose name was Joe. When Joe met Bill, he was sorry for what happened with Lily.
When Bill and Lily came back to Denver, Bill sent Lily to a rehab centre, Craig, for some months. Bill called Joe to live with him for some days in Denver. One fine day, Joe suggested Bill that he could build a rehab centre just like Craig. There will be all the facilities that a child or a teenager would want in his/her life. And Joe also suggested that he could build a rehab centre in which children of all ages could come and not like Craig in which only teenagers could come. Bill thought about it for some days and then decided that he will do it for the sake of Lily. He decided that his rehab centre’s name would be The Lily Pad. He requested Jessie to be the head Doctor for his rehab centre. Jessie accepted his proposal as her eldest son, Chris, had taken admission in a college in Denver, so, she could come at regular intervals and see the patients at The Lily Pad and also meet her son. When the rehab centre was finally built and Lily also came back to her home forever from Craig, Bill requested Jessie to shift to Denver forever. And Bill also said that he would arrange a house for Jessie and her children. At first Jessie refused because she knew that her children would refuse to shift. But then she tried to convince her children and they shifted to Denver.
At Craig Lily was taught to do many things even if she was in a wheel chair. She also learnt to ski in a wheelchair and her balance was perfect as always. When she came back to her home she participated in the Olympics in which she achieved a Silver Medal. That was the biggest achievement for her.
They had a small get together in which there were Joe, Bill, Jessie, Lily, Chris and all the other children Jessie. In this meeting Lily and Chris became good friends and fell in love with each other.
Time passed and it was finally the day for the opening ceremony of The Lily Pad. That day Bill said to Jessie that he loved her and she also said that she loved him too.
They never loosed hopes and this made all of them Winners!
Some lines which were written at the end of the story and which I really liked are as follows:-

“‘I love you too,’ she said softly, leaning against him. She didn’t have to fight anymore. She wasn’t alone. They were together. They were winners, just like the others. The Lily Pad had blessed them all.”

We celebrate Republic Day on 26th January every year as a remembrance of our Constitution. The Constitution of India came into effect from 26th January, 1950 and made India a completely independent republic . We also celebrate the Constitution Day on 26th November because on 26th November 1949 we adopted our Constitution. The Constitution is also the supreme law of the land and none can violate the provisions of the Constitution. I wonder how difficult is it to understand the Indian Constitution because we have a Preamble to the Constitution which is the basic structure of the Constitution and which tells us the main aims and what is the Indian Constitution all about. Our ancestors, freedom fighters gave us this Constitution to have a definite and written set of laws/rules which would be followed throughout the years. The Constitution declares all the citizens as equal and cannot be discriminated on any ground. Being a political science student, I studied the Constitution, the arti...

Death & Numb Feelings

TW: THIS POST TALKS ABOUT DEATH AND EMOTIONS RELATED TO IT, WHICH MAYBE PROVOKING.  Today, I was watching an English show and the particular episode was about someone passing away. It reminded me of the time between 2020- till date and all the people I lost during this time period.  I also realized how during this whole hustle of battling corona and life I had actually not gotten the time to even mourn properly. We all lost so many people during Corona and we couldn't even be there with our loved ones because of the fear of the spreading virus. Adulting hit a little more when I also realized that due to college and being so far away I couldn't attend funerals of my loved ones.  I cried watching the episode today. It felt good to get a little weight off my chest because hearing about deaths during Covid made me so numb that I couldn't even cry. I know that becoming completely numb about feelings is not healthy, but I guess that's just how I became during Covid and its st...
